Burial/memorial information
Enlisted in the 57th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, with the 41st Battalion, he arrived in England on 28 October 1915. On 29 February 1916 he was posted to the 23rd Battalion and on 15 April to the 22nd Battalion. Wounded in both legs on 30 September 1916 during the Battle of the Somme, he joined the 10th Reserve Battalion on 27 January 1917 on leaving hospital. On 6 June 1917, he returned to the 22nd Battalion in the front line. On 15 August 1917, he was first wounded, then declared missing and finally presumed killed in action on 15 August during the Battle of Lens, in the trenches on Hill 70 near Cité Saint-Laurent for the capture of Catapult Trench.

His name as it is inscribed on the Vimy Memorial. Over 11,000 fallen Canadians having no known place of burial in France, are honoured on this Memorial. May they never be forgotten. (J. Stephens) -
