He also declared and signed « Ivano » as his first name; this was then interpreted by the authorities as « Ivanhoë ». The 1901 and 1911 censuses clearly indicate that his usual first name is « Lucien ». He is inscribed as « Ivano » in the Book of Remembrance.
A carter, he enlisted with the 22nd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. On May 29, 1915, he landed in Plymouth, England, and on September 15 in Boulogne, Pas-de-Calais, France. Reported missing in action at Brickfields during the Battle of Courcelette between September 14 and 18, 1916, he was declared killed in action on September 17, 1916.

His name as it is inscribed on the Vimy Memorial. Over 11,000 fallen Canadians having no known place of burial in France, are honoured on this Memorial. May they never be forgotten. (J. Stephens) -
