His full name is Eli W. Hawkins.

 

Son of James Hawkins and Mary Margaret Coles of Change Islands, Fogo, Newfoundland. Husband of Mary Blanche Gatehouse of Change Islands. Father of Frederick J. Hawkins.

On 11 December 1917, the Sidney Smith left Twillingate, Newfoundland, bound for Gibraltar with a cargo of fish. She disappeared with her crew without a trace. Six lives were lost.
