Vernon Elderkin was the only son of Albert Cleveland Elderkin and Lucy Copeland Elderkin of Parrsboro, Nova Scotia. He had four sisters: Kathleen, Muriel, Evelyn and Irene. Vernon was born in West Amherst, Nova Scotia on December 17, 1887 and received a Bachelor of Science (Engineering) from McGill University in Montreal. He enlisted in the 14th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regiment) in 1914, served in France, and was killed in action at the age of 27 on May 21, 1915. Private Vernon C. Elderkin is remembered with honour on the Vimy Memorial in France. -
