Photo of Harold Gibson
Harold Gibson stands to the right in this picture. His generation are all gone now, but I (b.1958) was told that this image captures him with his best friend, whose name is lost to me, who was minimum height for the army, while Harold and his twin Ian were two of the tallest members of the CEF. I was also told that they were killed on the same day. They were known as "Mutt and Jeff" around the regiment. Harold's brother Ian survived the war, minus an arm, and lived into the mid 1960s. Their younger sister Agnes was my grandmother. The family retains the elegant black-bordered letter from the German High Command to my great grandmother, informing her of Harold's death in battle. -
