Additional citations

Distinguished Conduct Medal, London Gazette # 31128 dated 14 January 1919. "For conspicuous gallantry during the attack near Beaucourt-en-Santerre, 8 August 1918. After his platoon commander had become a casualty he took command, steadied the men and led them in a charge against a strongly held position on the edge of Beaucourt Wood. On reaching the wood he rushed round the flank of an enemy section, and, by cutting off the retreat, forced twenty of the garrison to surrender. This he did single-handed. He set a fine example of fearlessness to his men."

BOURLON WOOD CEMETERY Pas de Calais, France

Bourlon is a village approximately 6 kilometres west of Cambrai. It lies between the main Cambrai to Bapaume road (N30) and the Cambrai to Arras road (D939). The BOURLON WOOD CEMETERY is signposted from the centre of the village as is the Canadian Forces Memorial. On approaching the Memorial the road should be followed to the left where an unsurfaced track descends about 200 metres to the cemetery.
