Photo of Robert Cecil Haselton
(From Stanstead College Yearbook, July 1919)Robert Cecil Haselton, of Beebe, enlisted for overseas service in the 117th Battalion, in January 1916, when he was eighteen years old. He went overseas to England in August. In February 1917, he was attached to the 24th Battalion Victoria Rifles as a corporal, and sent to France. He went through Vimy Ridge and a few minor encounters following it safely, but was killed in action at the taking of Hill 70 near Lens, August 15th, 1917. A comrade, in writing of him, said that Bobby had won the love and respect of all who knew him in the battalion, for he always played the game fair.
