From the Toronto Star for 6 March 1917: "Pte Albert Lawrence, formerly of Markdale, Ont., was 18 years of age when he left the Exhibition Camp with one of the second contingent battalions two years ago. He was a native of Yorkshire, England and was employed in Markdale as a fireman. Missing since last October he is now reported to have fallen in duties." -
