Roland Thomas Reuben Heath was born in Wardsville, Ontario (halfway between London and Chatham, Ontario) in 1885. As a young man, he took over the running of his father's grist mill; however, its destruction by fire resulted in his going to Saskatchewan in search of work as a farm labourer. In November of 1915, he enlisted in the Canadian Army and was killed at Passchendaele, Belgium in 1917. -
