On 28 June 1915, the Armenian was carrying 1,414 mules to Avonmouth (England) when she was torpedoed at around 8.30pm by the U-24. She quickly sank with 29 sailors, including 12 black muleteers, off Trevose Head, Cornwall, England, position 50°40'N/06°24'W. The survivors were recovered on 29 June by the Belgian trawler O.85 President Stevens. In 2002, the wreck was found 20 miles (32 km) from where it was thought to have lain.
