Private Thomas Benjamin Raper
My would-be great Uncle, Tom Raper, was a teenager from Van Anda, B.C., when he went off to World War I in a spirit of adventure. When his sister, my great Aunt Ethel died about 20 years ago at 94 years old, we found several letters he had written from his training and then from the Front. She had saved them all these years and through several moves.
Two years ago, my younger son and I travelled to Vimy and paid tribute to him in visiting his grave and the Vimy memorial. My cousin's son has just returned from his second visit there. Young Tom is not forgotten.
