Son of John and Elizabeth Wellington of Ottawa, Ontario. Brother of Lawrence, Donald, William, Jackie and Private John Gerald Patrick Wellington, who was killed in action on December 22, 1944, while serving with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, R.C.I.C.

He stated he was single and employed as a lineman for Ontario Hydro. A Memorial erected by the Korean Veterans Association, National Capital Unit, commemorating the 516 Canadians who died in the Korean War was unveiled and rededicated during Veterans Week 2003 at Ottawa City Hall Headquarters on Elgin Street.
