Christened Joseph Alphonse Carrier. His mother died the year after he was born, after giving birth to another boy, who also died almost immediately. His father remarried Marie Molton Élie-dit-Breton in 1889 and died in 1912. His stepmother, Marie Breton, remarried Samuel Durand in 1916 and died in Sherbrooke in 1932. Alphonse's brother, Arthur Carrier, regimental number 297628, of the 224th CEF Battalion, also served in the First World War and was discharged after two weeks on 16 April 1916 for medical reasons.

Sherbrooke Monument
Cover of the original program distributed at the unveiling of the Sherbrooke WWI memorial on November 7th, 1926, and two images of the monument. The monument was designed by Mr. G. W. Hill of Montreal, Quebec with bronze figures cast in Belgium and granite from the Stanstead district. The bronze Memorial tablet lists 249 names. -
