Son of Théotime Demuth (deceased in 1905) and Célina Théberge (did not remarry and she moved to Lawrence, Massachusetts). Married to Adèle Desjardins residing in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He was father of two children, Albert Henry (1893-1975) and Irene (1915-2013), including a daughter born two months after he left overseas.

Baptized on January 26 in St-Raphaël. Bellechasse, Quebec, as Joseph Mathias Alphonse Demuth. Married August 25, 1913, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He enlisted on September 9, 1915, in the 57th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, declaring that he was born on the 27th. With the 41st Battalion, he embarked at Montreal, Quebec, for England, landing at Plymouth on October 28, 1915. Integrated into the 23rd Reserve Battalion on March 15, 1916, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion on April 15 and landed at Boulogne, Pas-de-Calais, France, on the 16th. Presumed killed in action between September 14 and 18, 1916, his death is confirmed to have occurred on September 14, 1916 at the Battle of Courcelette.
