The Soldiers' Tower
The Soldiers' Tower was built at University of Toronto between 1919-1924 in memory of those lost to the University in the Great War. The name of J. R. Duff is among the 628 names carved on the Memorial Screen which can be seen at photo left. Photo: K. Parks -

Circumstances of death registers
Source: Library and Archives Canada. CIRCUMSTANCES OF DEATH REGISTERS, FIRST WORLD WAR. Surnames: Duane to Dzhobiewski. Microform Sequence 30; Volume Number 31829_B016739. Reference RG150, 1992-93/314, 174. Page 143 of 1062. He was buried 700 yards North West of Courcelette just off West Miramount Road Somme. Subsequently, the grave could not be found. Hence his sacrifice is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial. -

His name as it is inscribed on the Vimy Memorial. Over 11,000 fallen Canadians having no known place of burial in France, are honoured on this Memorial. May they never be forgotten. (J. Stephens) -
