Born 26 July 1880 in London, England. Son of Walter Henry Evans, Calgary, Alberta and Alice M. Evans of West Point Camberley, Surrey, England. Lieutenant Evans had previous with the Canadian Artillery, "C" Battery in the South African War. He attested at Valcartier, Quebec on 23 September 1914, stating he was single and employed as a rancher. For a period of time,prior to the war, he was engaged in fruit farming in the Province of Ontario, then returned to ranching. He joined the Alberta Dragoons and went to France with the first contingent.
