Private Joseph Carriere
Joseph Carrière died at the front during the 1st world war. He was one of 8 sons of Joseph-Louis Carrière and Rebecca Roberge. At the age of 29, single, he voluntered to serve in combat in Europe.
The family name was originally Carrier and not Carrière. It was changed after Joseph-Louis Carrier moved from St-Romuald to Montréal. We suspect that the name was changed due to the English pronunciation because Joseph-Louis worked for a long time on the Grand Trunk Railroad. The original Baptism Register clearly showed that Joseph-Louis's name was Carrier. Alphonse Carrier, one of Joseph's brothers, later changed the family name back to Carrier.
