John (Jack) Angus MacArthur, son of John MacArthur and Margaret MacDonald of Broad Cove Cape Breton. seen here on the left, shortly before his death in 1916 in France.

John Angus (Jack) MacArthur, 1st on the left, photo sent home to family. While military records suggest his birthday was November 17, 1892, in actual fact, family records suggest that he was born in 1899, making him 16 when joining the army and 17 years old when he died at the Somme.

COURCELETTE BRITISH CEMETERY Somme, France
Courcelette is a village some 10 kilometres north-east of the town of Albert, just off the D929 road to Bapaume. The Courcelette British Cemetery is approximately 1 kilometre west of the village on the south side of a track, suitable for cars, from the secondary road from Courcelette to Pozieres. The route is signposted in the village.
