Burial/memorial information
Son of Almanzar (aka Armand) Guay and Éva Laporte of Montréal, Québec.
Enlisted at the 4th Recruitment Depot of the military district in Montreal South, Quebec, he sailed for Great Britain on November 25, 1943, and arrived there on December 2. Assigned to Force M, he departed for the Mediterranean on February 18, 1944. On the 19th, he was transferred to the Royal 22nd Regiment, assigned to the 1st Battalion on March 3 and then to the 4th on the 8th. He was seriously wounded on September 20 during the Battle of the Rimini Line near Palazzo Paradiso on the San Fortunato ridge. He was killed in action on December 12, 1944, during an assault on the Fosso Vetro Canal between the Lamone and Bagnacavallo rivers, near the latter town. He was buried on the 14th along the road leading to Ravenna, northwest of Russi, in grave number 21. He was later exhumed and reburied in the Ravenna cemetery. He had served for 706 days, including 383 days overseas.
