This picture of Gordon was taken when he was 18 years of age. He lived in Harriston and secretly enlisted in Toronto against the wishes of his parents and family. He wrote many letters home until he was killed in France and one such letter had a poem, 4 lines of which are: ...The saber and lances clatter/The roar of war and its guns/All make up the hell of the battle/That rages from sun until sun/...
