On 28 July 1918, the Hyperia was en route from Marseille, France, to Port Saïd, Egypt, when she was torpedoed and sunk by UB-51 84 miles (135 km) north of Port Saïd, in position 32°21'N/31°25'E. Of her crew, 8 sailors, including the captain, perished, along with 57 French servicemen.
