David Wilson Aitken was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on January 13, 1882. He was married to Mary Jane Simpson. They were living at 127 Langside St., Winnipeg, MB when he signed his attestation papers on July 28, 1915. He was 33 years, 6 months old. He was a tailor, had served in the 6th Royal Scots and belonged to the 100th Winnipeg Grenadiers at the time.
He was a Company Sergeant Major in the Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment), 78th Battalion when he was killed on April 9, 1917 (age 35 years, 3 months). He is buried in the Canadian Cemetery No. 2 Pas de Calais, France which is 1 kilometre south of the Canadian Memorial at Vimy.

CANADIAN CEMETERY No. 2 Pas de Calais, France
The CANADIAN CEMETERY No. 2 is about 2.5 kilometres north of the village of Neuville-St. Vaast. The village is about 6 kilometres north of Arras and 1 kilometre east of the main road from Arras to Bethune. The cemetery is on a spur road turning left from the road to Givenchy-en-Gohelle, about 1 kilometre south of the Canadian Memorial at Vimy.
