Baptized Louis-Arthur Berthiaume. Son of Michel Berthiaume (deceased in 1914) and Hermine Guertin (deceased in 1917).
Husband of Victorine Harnois (married in 1904), of St-Hyacinthe, Québec. He was father of four children in the 1911 census.
He stated being born on 15 April 1880 when he enlisted.
He had previously served in the 84th Regiment. Declared a deserter from 1 December 1915 to the 20th, he was sentenced to 14 days' detention on the 27th. Enlisted on 15 January 1916, he was transferred from the 69th Reserve Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force to the 22nd Battalion on 5 October 1916. He took part in the battles of Bully-Grenay, Lens and the Angres trenches, all in the Pas-de-Calais. He was killed in action on 9 April 1917 on Vimy Ridge, France, in the area of the Souchez and Scarpe rivers.

THELUS MILITARY CEMETERY Pas de Calais, France
Thelus is a village in the Department of the Pas-de-Calais, west of the N17 Arras-Lens main road and 6.5 kilometres north of Arras. Thelus Military Cemetery is approximately 300 metres west of the N17, located in the open country, about 50 metres north of Thelus village.
