Burial/memorial information
On 30 July 1917, the Shimosa was sailing alone in ballast from Le Havre, Normandy, France, towards Canada when she was torpedoed by U-46 220 miles (354 km) north-west of Eagle Island, Mayo, England, in the North Sea, position 55°14'N/15°05'W. Her captain and 16 crew members lost their lives.
