Son of Charles Barnsley and Hannah Moore. Husband of Cicely Isabella Knott, 3 Beaumont St., North Shields. Father of Alice, Cecily, Minnie, John M., Ethel and Lionel Barnsley, all born in England.Charles was Captain in the Merchant Navy. Born at North Shields.

On March 11, 1917, the Kwasind, a Canadian steamship, struck a mine laid by the German submarine UC-4 off Southwold, in the North Sea, and sank with twelve sailors, position 52°08'N/01 °45'E.
