He enlisted with No. 3 Stationary Hospital, and was made as Staff Sergeant. He was made as a Lieutenant of the 3rd British West Indian Regiment in Egypt. He was wounded at Gaza Hill while leading a company of the 5th Welsh Foot Regiment. He was promoted to Captain and was transferred to the 53rd Division General Staff. A year latter, he volunteered with the Royal Flying Corps, and was later sent to Salonica, where he was killed on March 19th, 1918, while escorting a bombing mission.

STRUMA MILITARY CEMETERY Greece
Struma Military Cemetery is 65 kilometres north-east of Thessaloniki, in the village of Kalokastron. Access is by a sign-posted track on the north side of the village.
