Lt Heater was killed in a collision during aerial combat practice at 07.20am above RFC Waddington, Lincolnshire, on June 7th 1918. He was flying DH9 serial C1201. He had been stationed at Waddington since January 1918 and was commissioned in March 1918. The other pilot was also killed, Acting-Sgt Alf Pitkin, 31, from Bolsover, Derbyshire (UK) who was flying a DH6 trainer.
