The only son of the Hon. Mr. Justice Maurice Julian Berkeley and Mary Bruce Berkeley, of Judges Chambers, Supreme Court, British Guiana. He sailed on the SS Invernia to England on 3 October 1914 joining the 5th Battery, 2nd Brigade. He listed his civilian occupation as Clerk.
