Burial/memorial information
Baptized Joseph Hubert Hogue. Son of Louis Hogue and Mathilde Laplante, of Montréal and St-Lin-des-Laurentides, Québec.
After serving for three months with the 65th Mount Royal Carabiniers Regiment, he enlisted in the 57th Reserve Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, embarked for Great Britain on July 21, 1915, and arrived on the 31st. With the 23rd Reserve Battalion, he crossed into France on November 30 and landed at Rouelles, Haute-Marne, the same day. He was transferred to the 22nd Battalion on December 1 in Le Havre, Normandy. At the front near Kimmel, Belgium, he was accidentally wounded by a bullet in both feet on February 8, 1916, which led to a court-martial where he was found not guilty. On July 13, 1917, he returned to duty with the 69th Reserve Battalion at Shorncliffe. Returning to the 22nd Battalion on the 28th, he went to the front lines on October 16, 1916.
The battalion was in brigade reserve at Fosse No 10 near Sains-en-Gohelle when Hubert had an acute attack of appendicitis. He was evacuated to No 6 casualty clearing station in Bruay, where he died two days later.
