Baptized Joseph-François-Xavier-Florian-Uldéric Filiatrault. Son of Corinne Archambault (deceased in 1899) and Florian Filiatrault (remarried in 1904 to Maria Migné; he died in 1917). Florian stated being born on the 10th when he enlisted, and while his father signed “Filiatrault”, himself signed “Filiatreault”.
Enlisted under the Conscription Act of 1917, call-up number 64354 DC, he was assigned to the 2nd Depot of the 2nd Quebec Regiment. On February 15, 1915, he sailed for Great Britain, arriving in England on March 4. Upon arrival, he was assigned to the 10th Reserve Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. On August 6, 1918, he was assigned to the Canadian Labor Pool and crossed over to France. On September 15, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion and took part in the battles of Cambrai and Valenciennes. On January 30, 1919, he reported sick to the 5th Canadian Field Ambulance near Namur, Belgium. On the 31st, he was transferred to the 48th Canadian Casualty Clearing Station based in Namur, where he died of pneumonia at 12:45 a.m. on the 31st.
