ALEXANDER HUGH McLACHLAN enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Forces, 46th Battalion, at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on 8th May 1915. His regimental number was 427173.<P>
In October 1915, the 46th Bn. sailed for England, aboard the SS Lapland, and arrived on 2nd November 1915. They camped in the Aldershot area at Bramshott Camp, near the town of Haslemere, Hampshire (about 20 miles south-west of London. <P>
On 16th June 1916, Alexander was transferred on overseas duty to France, and was posted to the 16th Battalion Canadian Scottish. He landed in France on 17th June, and reached the unit on the Ypres Salient (Southern Belgium) on 20th June. He joined the 10th Platoon, Number 3 Company.<P.
Alex was killed in action on 4th August 1916. He was buried in LARCH WOOD (RAILWAY CUTTING) CEMETERY, 4 Km south east of Ieper (Ypres) in Belgium.
