Burial/memorial information
Baptized Joseph-Edmond-Edgar Houle. Son of Alcide Houle and Alma Bibeau, of St-Félix-de-Kingsey, Drummond, Québec. He stated being born on the 28th when he enlisted.
Enlisted in Company B of the 1st Central Ontario Regiment, part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he sailed for Great Britain on June 5, 1918, and arrived in Liverpool, England, on the 28th. Upon his arrival, he was assigned to the 12th Reserve Battalion and, on August 17, to the 10th Reserve Battalion. On October 25, 1918, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion. On the 27th, he crossed over to France and joined his new unit on the front lines.
Severely wounded from shrapnel in the left thigh during the assault on the village of Élouges, Belgium on 7 November 1918, he was evacuated to No 8 United States General Hospital in Camiers where he died of his wounds.
