Additional information
Baptized Joseph-Magloire-Herménégilde Belle-Isle. Son of Michel Belzil and Eugénie Pinel-dit-Lafrance, of Rivière-Trois-Pistoles, Rivière-du-Loup, Québec. The last name of this family gradually evolved over one generation, form Belle-Isle-dit-Gagnon à Belle-Isle, Belzile and Belzil. He stated being born on 20 October 1884 when he enlisted.

From the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion on 29 April 1918. On 24 May, he joined his new unit in the Neuville-Vitasse sector, Pas-de-Calais, France. In August 1918, he fought at Amiens, Picardy. He was killed in action on 28 August 1918 during the Battle of Chérisy, France.

Take the D38 from Cherisy to Hendecourt. Approximately 2 kilometres from Cherisy turn left just before Sun Quarry Cemetery onto a dirt track. Continue for 1 kilometre before turning left to arrive at Quebec Cemetery.
