Baptized Pierre-Frédéric-Léon-Honoré Girard. Son of Pierre Girard and Mélina Boyer, of St-André-d’Argenteuil and Carillon, Outaouais, Québec. Husband of Corinne Payette, of Montréal and Carillon, Outaouais, Québec. Father of Marguerite Girard.
He stated being born in Carillon when he enlisted.
Enlisted in Quebec City with the 258th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he embarked from Halifax, Nova Scotia, for Great Britain on October 4, 1917, arriving on the 17th. Upon arrival, he was incorporated into the 10th Reserve Battalion, then transferred to the 22nd Battalion on March 28, 1918. On the 29th, he crossed the English Channel and joined his new unit on the front line on April 2. On August 27, 1918, after an artillery barrage, the battalion launched an assault on the German trenches located between east of Wancourt and Chérisy. He was mowed down by machine gun fire and died instantly.
