Attestation Papers
Herbert Rhodes along with a cousin came to Canada in April 1908. They arrived in Cochrane, Alberta. Herb farmed in the community of Jumping Pound. He called his farm "Dog Tail Ranch" He wrote home about how the area reminded him of home in England. He was soon joined by brothers, his sister and his father, Thompson Rhodes. He answered his country's call to duty in 1915. He lost his life a Vimy ridge on Nov. 29 1916 just short of his 29th birthday. He is buried in a town's cemetary south of Vimy Ridge. He left his farm to his brother, my grandfather. Like my ancestors, my husband, my son and I continue to farm this land. Thank you for your sacrifice Great Uncle Herb. You and your buddies are remembered
