Son of Francis 'Frank' Eldridge MacDonnell and Edith Elizabeth 'Ada' (née Brannen) of Lower Wood Harbor, Shelburne Co., Nova Scotia. Gladwyn was the youngest of their four sons serving overseas in the First World War. He also commemorated on a memorial headstone in Greenwood Cemetery , Woods Harbour.

VILLERS-BRETONNEUX MILITARY CEMETERY Somme, France
Villers-Bretonneux is a village 16 kilometres east of Amiens on the straight main road to St Quentin. The Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery is about 2 kilometres north of the village on the east side of the road to Fouilloy.
