Additional information
Son of Henry Haystaff and Clara Clark, of Tring, Hertfordshire, England. He stated being born in 1885 when he enlisted. He first volunteered in 1916, but was released after three months of service due to varicose veins on the legs. Reenlisted at the end of 1917, he arrived in France eight months later. On 6 September 1918, he was part of a group Anglophones soldiers transferred by error to the 22nd Battalion, and was he was retransferred soon after to the 87th Battalion, an Anglophone unit.

VALENCIENNES (ST.ROCH) COMMUNAL CEMETERY is situated on the north-east side of the town, about 1.5 kilometres from the centre. It is on the north side of the road to Bruay-sur-L'Escaut.
