Baptized Édouard-Samuel-Maurice Bauset.
Son of Édouard Bauset (deceased in 1892) and Éléonore Ostell (deceased in 1891), of Montréal.
Orphaned at a young age, he was raised by his grands-parents in Ottawa: Samuel-Pierre Bauset (deceased in 1909) and Virginie Walker (deceased in 1907).
When he enlisted, he declared his uncle and godfather, René-Adolphe Bauset, as next-of-kin.

Brother of Lieutenant Paul Bauset, gassed in France in August 1917 while serving with the 22nd Battalion, and of Sergeant Jules Bauset, regimental number 2252, of the Canadian Army Medical Corps, who also served in France in the First World War. Nephew of Lieutenant-Colonel Jean Thomas Ostell, veteran of the Manitoba Rebellion in 1885 and commander of the 65th Regiment - Les Carabiniers Mont-Royal.

He served with the 65th Regiment - Les Carabiniers Mont-Royal. He took part in the Battle of Vierstraat, Belgium, and the Battle of the Trenches of Saint-Éloi, France. Wounded in action by shrapnel to the left hand on 3 May 1916. He was promoted to assistant captain with Captain Georges Vanier, future Governor General of Canada. He took part in the Battle of the Somme, France. He was killed in action on 16 September 1916 in Sauvage Valley, Brickfields, between Bazentin, Mametz and Contalmaison woods, Belgium, by a shell during an assault at Coucellette, France.

SUNKEN ROAD CEMETERY, CONTALMAISON Somme, France

Contalmaison is a village in the Department of the Somme, 6 kilometres east-north-east of Albert. The Sunken Road, from which the cemetery is named, is part of the Contalmaison-Pozieres road, and the cemetery lies a little east of the road.
