Pte Shaw enlisted in January 1917 and was hospitalized at the Ongwanada Military Hospital in Kingston with bronchitis on February 27th; re-admitted with pleurisy on March 13; and re-admitted with appendicitis on March 28th.

Pte Shaw had been admitted to the military hospital in Kingston with bronchitis and pleurisy in February and March 1917; then sent to England where he died in hospital with influenza and pneumonia in October 1918, at age 28.
