Son of Jérémie Denis-dit-Laporte and Salomée Pollender, of Waterloo, Shefford, Québec.
He was baptized under the name Joseph Siffroy Alcide Denis on February 11, 1894 in St-Armand, Missisquoi, Québec.
Drafted in 1917, he was enlisted at the 2nd Battalion Depot of the 2nd Quebec Regiment in Montreal, Quebec, where he enlisted on January 3, 1918. He sailed for Great Britain on February 18 and landed in England on March 3. Upon his arrival, he was assigned to the 10th Reserve Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, based in Witley. On August 23, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion and crossed the English Channel on the 13th, landing in France that same day. On the 17th, he went to the front lines. On October 6, he was gassed at Cambrai, Pas-de-Calais, and was evacuated to England on the 21st. He was granted medical discharge on December 2 and returned to the 10th Reserve Battalion. On December 15, he fell ill and was transported to the 4th Scottish General Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland, where he died of pneumonia on the 18th.

Photo of Alcide Laporte taken in England while he was in service with his comrade Arthur Robitaille who later married my grandfather's sister, Georgianna Bisson, in 1931. He was born in St-Armand, in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes parish, on February 9, 1894. He was a DENIS known Laporte. He died of the Spanish Influenza on December 18, 1918. -
