Lieutenant Samuel Yardley Cook
Samuel was born in Darlaston, Staffordshire on June 17, 1886, the son of Samuel & Elizabeth Cook. A married man, he was an engineer by profession. He had over ten years experience of the military before enlisting on September 23, 1915 at Vancouver, British Columbia. He survived the war but in 1919 was accidentally drowned at Rhos-on-Sea, Wales whilst trying to rescue others. His younger brother Herbert, who also served in the Canadian Army, died in Belgium in 1917 and is commemorated on the headstone.
