Baptized Joseph Édouard Raymond Landry. Son of Guillaume Landry and Honorine Boudreau, of St-Omer, Bonaventure, Quebec. Brother of Roger, Alonzo, Jose, Carol, Marcelle, Lilianne, Jacqueline, Josette and Claudette.
Enlisted in the Canadian Army Special Force, he was first transferred to the 2nd Battalion, Royal 22nd Regiment, on September 10, 1950, and was sent to Quebec City, Quebec, where he served at the Citadel of Quebec until June 14, 1951. He was then transferred to the 3rd Battalion on June 15 and underwenttraining with the 25th Composite Training Company on September 12. He departed for Japan before landing in Busan, South Korea, on October 31. As a member of the 2nd Battalion, he was accidentally killed on January 11, 1952, in one of the unit’s minefields.
His name was inscribed on the cenotaph of the Korean War Memorial in Meadowvale Cemetery, Brampton, Peel, Ontario, erected in 1997 to commemorate the 516 Canadians killed in action between 25 June 1950 and 27 July 1953, as well as on the Korean War Memorial in downtown Ottawa, Ontario. An identical monument can be found at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Pusan (South Korea).
