"During the heavy bombardment of the 26th, April 1916, when all communications by wire with the front line companies were cut off, Pte Bond carried numerous message from No 14 Coy, to Battn, Hdqrs. The ground was swept with Shrapnel and High Explosives Shells and this man covered the ground on eight occasions. By his fearless conduct and in the face of severe shelling, the Commanding Officer was enabled to keep up communication with this Coy: which was of particular value during the crucial time."
