Baptized Joseph Wilfrid Charette. Son of Ludger Charette and Parmélia Ménard, of Montréal, Québec. His mother died in 1902 and his father remarried to Rose-de-Lima « Délima » Prud’homme in 1903, then he died in 1909. Wilfrid stated being born in 1895 and named his sister Florina Charette-Pilon as next of kin when he enlisted.

Wilfrid had been evacuated of the unit the month before, to care for his multiple shell fragment wounds and had been back for only five days when he was killed.
