This memorial is dedicated to the memory of the local men and women who served in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. It was erected by the Ponoka Branch of the British Empire Service League (now the Royal Canadian Legion). The cross was unveiled by colonel Palmer, Agent for Indian Affairs, Hobbema, early in the 1930s. The late Comrade Frank Mayled, Head Gardener at the P.M.H. landscaped the plot with a rare variety of trees and shrubs. After Frank died in 1943 the shrubs and trees were replaced with mulch easier to manage lawn and flowers. The chain and post guard surrounding the Cross was placed there by an anonymous friend.
Honouring those who served and those who laid down their lives for their country
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.
