The Boer War Memorial was unveiled on 15 August 1905 in the presence of Lord Grey, Governor-General of Canada, the Prince of Battenberg and officers of six British naval warships. It was dedicated to all Quebecois who were killed in action during the Boer War. This memorial was erected on the site of departure of the first Canadian contingent for South Africa, on 30 October 1899. Sculpted by Hamilton Plantagenet MacCarthy, the statue soldier wears the colonial uniform, holding a rifle in one hand and the Canadian Red Ensign in the other. The brief verses on the right side of the monument are from the pen of Reverend M.F.G. Scott, of Quebec.

Hamilton P. MacCarthy was born on 28 July 1846 in London, England. He studied with his father, sculptor Hamilton Wright MacCarthy and at the Royal Academy Schools. MacCarthy moved to Toronto, Ontario, in 1885. Thirteen years later he moved to Ottawa and studied at the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. MacCarthy had 15 children and his son Coeur de Lion MacCarthy was a sculptor who produced numerous commemorative works after the First World War.

Other memorials by Hamilton MacCarthy include: South African War Memorial and Lieutenant Harold Lothrop Borden Memorial in Nova Scotia; Soldiers Monument in Prince Edward Island; General Isaac Brock MonumentSouth African War Memorial and Boer War Memorial in Ontario.

The Voltigeurs de Québec Regiment Memorial was unveiled on September 4, 1990. Created by sculptor Raoul Hunter, this bronze was erected to honor the battalion of the Voltigeurs de Québec, the oldest French-Canadian troop corps, formed in 1862. The monument highlights the Voltigeurs' orders of battle, from the Second Fenian Conflict of 1866 to missions with the United Nations. It represents a rifleman, weapon slung over his shoulder, wearing the characteristic cap worn by the soldiers responsible for restoring peace during the conflict with the Métis of the Northwest in 1885.

Québec Printemps 1918

[plaque/plaque]

The monument was inaugurated in October 29, 2010 by Minister Josée Verner. It pays tribute to our soldiers deployed around the world in defence of peace, justice and freedom. The monument was created thanks to donations from listeners of two Quebec City radio stations, Radio X CHOI 98.1 and Radio X2 Rock 100.9, with the help of McDonald’s restaurants in Quebec City and the surrounding area. The funds needed to complete the project were raised by producing stickers reading “Merci aux troupes”, which were offered for sale for $2 at McDonald’s restaurants. The enthusiastic response resulted in all 12,000 stickers being sold within a couple of weeks. As a result, no public funds were required for the construction of the monument.

L'ÉGLISE NOTRE-DAME-DES-VICTOIRES
NOTRE-DAME-DES-VICTOIRES CHURCH

This church, which occupies the site of Champlain's Habitation, was built in the late 17th century and bears the signature of suh renowed architects as Baillif, Maillou and Baillargé. It was named for the two French victories of 1690 and 1711 over the British fleet. The church was destroyed during the siege of 1759 but, owing to popular interest in this place of worship, a symbol of the French presence in Canada, it was rebuilt. The present church is the result of several building programs, each reflecting the successive styles which now give form to Quebec City's rich architectural heritage.
