This memorial was built in 1970 in a mini park next to the centennial building on Mance Street and then moved in 1984 to Pioneer Park. It was erected by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #3 and designed by sculptor Don Darby.

It consists of a cement base, a 10 feet high painted concrete cross, and a fiberglass poppy with a First World War military helmet in the center. The original bronze plaque was stolen in 2013 and replaced with a granite one.

«Épisode de la conquête anglaise
Le quatre août 1759 un détachement
de l'armée anglaise, campé à
l'Île-aux-Coudres sous le
commandement de Joseph Gorham,
capitaine de Rangers, fit une
descente à la Baie-Saint-Paul. Lors
de cette opération la population se
réfugia dans les «cabanes» à
l'intérieur des terres. Il y eut
néanmoins deux personnes tuées
dont l'une fut scalpée, deux
prisonniers ainsi qu'une
cinquantaine de maisons, étables et
granges incendiés....Shaco, 1982»

[This second plaque, replacing the episode more explicitly in the context of the conquest of New France by Britain, was erected in 1992./En 1992, on posa cette deuxième plaque qui inscrit cet épisode plus explicitement dans le contexte de la conquête de la Nouvelle-France par l'Angleterre.]
In July 1998, 5e Régiment de Génie du Canada dedicated its armoured engineer building to Major J.J. Denovan. As a young officer with the British Tank Design Department in 1943, Lieutenant Denovan was instrumental in developing the prototype armoured engineer vehicle based on the Churchill tank. Spawning a number of variants, these armoured vehicles led to the formation of engineer armoured assault troops that permitted the engineers to be “first in the breach.”

On July 30, 1974, at the Valcartier Cadet Training Center, an accidental grenade explosion claimed the lives of six cadets and wounded dozens more. In 1975, a rock that was originally near the barracks where the incident took place was used as a cenotaph and placed near the headquarters in the center of the camp. During the 1990s reconstruction of the camp, the rock was moved back to approximately where it was initially, not far from the 1974 accident.

1974 Valcartier Cadet Memorial was erected by the 1974 accident responders and Army Cadet League of Canada.
