In 1939, the Phelps Women's Institute acquired the property where the Phelps Cenotaph currently sits. The culmination of years of hard work and planning was reached in November 1960, when a memorial cairn was erected on the grounds to honour those who made the supreme sacrifice. It was planned and designed by members of the branch and built of local stone by local workmen for free. Members of the North Bay Branch of the Canadian Legion were in charge of the dedication ceremony and unveiling of the cenotaph. Local Guides, Brownies and their leaders participated in the service.

At this time, the park was renamed to Phelps Memorial ParkSince it was built, the cenotaph has been the focal point of Remembrance Day Services in the park.

Marilyn Hummel, a Life Member of Phelps Women's Institute, worked to build a museum in Phelps to house her collection of antiques and artifacts from this area. She carried out fundraising for years, but unfortunately the museum never materialized. Marilyn bequeathed the money raised to Phelp's Women's Institue and asked that the money be put to good use. The Women's Institute had always wanted to have a sign built for Phelps Memorial Park.

Kyle Wilson of Kustom Kreations was contacted and collaboration began. After much discussion a design was selected and, along with the steel work, was completed by Kyle. Randy Quirt donated all his time and some of the materials. On November 6, 2022, they both installed the sign and put in river rocks and crushed stone to enhance its beauty.

In 2008, a Cenotaph Committee was formed to build a cenotaph to honour local Veterans. The corner of Albert Avenue and Paris Avenue was chosen because it is adjacent to the Alliston Memorial Arena, which was named in honour of local Veterans in 1950 and because it is central to the town. The land is of the Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Chippewa/Ojibwe.

The center piece of the memorial was unveiled on August 24, 2013. Funds were provided by the Nottawasage Foundation and it was designed by Bradley Design Consultants of New Tecumseth. It was built by Smith Monuments Company Ltd. The center stone is made of Cambrian Black granite from Quebec and on the front are the names of soldiers that gave the ultimate sacrifice in the First and Second World Wars. The battles list for both wars are listed on the back.

The service men and women artwork was completed by artist David Craig. The wing memorials are made from supreme India black stone. On the west side are dedications to Veterans of Korea, Gulf War and Peacekeeping. The east side honours Afghanistan Veterans.

In 2017, black steel benches were donated by the town of New Tecumseth to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. They were designed and manufactured by David Ogilvie Engineering Ltd., Scotland.

The Alliston Legion, Town of New Tecumseth and Alliston Cenotaph Committee relocated the Alliston School War Memorial to its current location with the Alliston Cenotaph directly across from the former school property in 2020.

On November 11, 2021, the addition of two names to the Afghanistan side were unveiled. The families of Sapper Brian Collier and Corporal Matthew Dinning have connections to the region.

Funds raised by the community were used in 2022 to repair water and ice damage of the two wing monuments; the east side stone was removed, shipped to Hamilton, Ontario where it was re-shaved, re-engraved and shipped to Quebec to be polished; scratches on the Afghanistan India Blackstone were repaired.

In 1923, the first memorial (a vault) was erected in the Markdale Public Cemetery. Interested citizens arranged for three large stone plaques which listed the names of the men from Markdale who joined the active forces. One plaque listed the 33 names of those who paid the supreme sacrifice in the First World War. The remaining two plaques listed the 142 names of those who joined the forces in Markdale and were fortunate enough to return home.

The Royal Canadian Legion was founded in 1925-26 and Veterans paraded to the cemetery on November 11 for their service honouring the First World War Veterans. In 1971, the vault was removed and a new one was erected further back in the cemetery grounds. Its placement was questioned and through the efforts of a local Veteran, who is now deceased, the three plaques were carefully taken down and stored at the Royal Canadian Legion Headquarters. A smaller brass plaque was created and erected in the Carnegie Library and still hangs to this day.

The same local Veteran and his committee began fundraising and sought approval from the local hospital to erect a new memorial to honour the men and women from the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. Through hard work and the approval from the Centre Grey Hospital Board for land, a new memorial was constructed and placed on the Southeast corner of the hospital in 1979. In 1983, the Hospital Board gave approval for more ground to be given to install the three plaques with the First World War Veterans, behind the existing memorial. The new memorial was moved to its current location at the Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 333 Flesherton-Markdale.

the Flesherton Cenotaph was unvieled on August 3, 1938 in Memorial Park by Mrs. Mary Jamieson, who had three sons and one daughter in the service. One son was killed in action and the other two have since died. During the unveiling, her daughter, May Jamieson, had a position of honour next to the cenotaph.  May Jamieson was Flesherton's only nurse during the war. When Mrs. Jamieson cut the cord, which held the flag drapping the memorial, she used the bandage scissors that her daughter used in hospital work at Malta.

The memorial was first erected to honour those who served and died in the Great War, with the names of those from the Second World War inscribed later. The cenotaph is flanked by a German trench mortar and a machine gun.

Between 1947 - 1949, the community made plans to build a new facility but material shortages created during and following the Second World War delayed progress. Early in 1949 with financial assistance from a provincial grant program, Alliston Town Council voted to proceed with the project and in April of that year, the unnamed arena was first referred to as Alliston Memorial Arena. Presumably Council had decided to dedicate the new structure to those who had lost their lives in both the First and Second World Wars.

In May 1949, Council announced that the memorial arena and a large community hall would be built at a cost of over $82,000 on the understanding that local residents would step to the plate as a free labour source to offset the additional costs of the building. The community as a whole was committed to building this new facility.

On March 10, 1950, Alliston Memorial Arena was officially opened with Ontario Premier Leslie M. Frost in attendance. In a service at the arena on March 19, Royal Canadian Legion, Alliston Branch 171 dedicated the building to the memory of those who had died in service for this country in both World Wars.

The Alliston War Mural is located on the outside wall of the arena that faces the Alliston Cenotaph.

The Collingwood Cenotaph is dedicated to the Veterans of the First World War and was erected by the people of the town of Collingwood. The Cenotaph and is located in Memorial Park, at The Station. The Station, a replica of their train station, originally constructed in 1873, is now home to the Collingwood Museum and the Chamber of Commerce.

In 1923, Canadian National Railway (CNR) agreed to the erection of a memorial on its property, if the Town would sign an agreement. CNR also provided a landscape gardener to assist with the layout for the proper placing of the memorial. The Cenotaph was constructed and dedicated to local Collingwood men who volunteered and laid down their lives in the First World War.

The north and south faces of the shaft lists the names of those who fell. Construction began in 1922, with a public dedication held August 5, 1923. The Cenotaph was designed by local contractor Charles Henry Lawrence MacDonald, who used his brother Fred as a model for the soldier. A concrete slab supports a granite base and stations a 16 foot bronze figure of a First World War Canadian soldier in uniform looking west to St. Paul Street. The soldier holds a bugle to his lips with his right hand, left arm at his side, prepared to play "The Last Post", which is inscribed immediately below the figure.

The Cenotaph is framed by four electric light standards and a flagpole, initially installed in 1923. In 1960 granite "wings" flanking the original Cenotaph were installed and commemorate 52 Collingwood men who died in the Second World War. In 1982, the Korean War Veterans were acknowledged on the wings.

The Collingwood Cenotaph is an important symbol of community pride and provides a focus for a number of ceremonies throughout the year, including Remembrance Day. Maintenance and upkeep of the Cenotaph are shared by the Town of Collingwood Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture, the Collingwood Horticultural Society and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63.

There is also a First World War artillery piece on the grounds of the park, as well as a plaque honouring the Canadian Merchant Navy.

The Beeton Community Memorial Centre was erected 1948-1949 and officially opened December 29, 1948, by Hon. W.A. Goodfellow. A local farmer and carpenter Ben Heuchan came forward and offered to raise the rink, enlisting local labour and farmers in the community. The actual construction was supervised by Ben Heuchan, and later by Andy McCague.
