Son of John George Welsh and Grace Ellen Welsh, of Entry Island, Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Québec. Brother of George Walter Welsh, who served in Europe during the Second World War and survived. Sixteen of his cousins served in Force C.

The following people from Entry Island, Magdalen Islands, Quebec, are all brothers and/or cousins that served during the Second World War. They served with the Royal Rifles of Canada or the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve, unless indicated otherwise. Eight died in service.

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY Japan

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY is 9 kilometres west of the city on Yuenchi-Dori, Hodogaya Ward, which branches left off the old Tokkaido highway. The nearest railway station is Hodogaya, 5 kilometres to the north on the JNR line but the cemetery is easily reached by bus from Yokohama station.
