Son of Thomas W. Hicks and Henrietta Hicks, of Magnetawan, Ontario. Joined the 162nd Battalion. He was transferred to the 35th Battalion on 4 December 1916, onto the 4th Canadian Reserve Battalion on 1 February 1917, and finally to the 75th Battalion on 21 February 1917. He listed his civilian occupation as farmer and he was single.

Pte Hicks is commemorated on a memorial in Magnetawan, Ontario having made the supreme sacrifice.

Location:

The CANADIAN CEMETERY No. 2 is about 2.5 kilometres north of the village of Neuville-St. Vaast. The village is about 6 kilometres north of Arras and 1 kilometre east of the main road from Arras to Bethune. The cemetery is on a spur road turning left from the road to Givenchy-en-Gohelle, about 1 kilometre south of the Canadian Memorial at Vimy.
